Teach Someone Something:
Imagine you’re spending time with a friend. She wants to take her dog for a walk and you decide to join. She wants to walk from her house to the park, which is 2 miles east of her house. She likes to take her dog on “smell walks”, where she lets him follow scents along the way. You ask her how far she thinks you’ll go. “Well, it’s two miles to the park.” “No,” you say, “what’s the distance we’ll probably end up walking?” She seems confused. How would you explain to your friend that the distance you will walk is different from the displacement from her house to the park?
